My four children and I had been attending a certain church for some years, when I was suddenly awakened to the fact that I did not have an understandable knowledge of God. This was brought about by the tragic loss of my dearest friend and her family. I did not know where to turn to find the answers to the questions that seemed to be flooding my consciousness at this time. I realized that all the material blessings I had thought so important for my children would be as nothing compared with helping them to gain a true understanding of God. I knew then that this was the one thing I wanted them to have. I also felt that if there really was a God, there must be a way to have His presence felt. With these thoughts in mind I humbly prayed to God, asking Him what I must do to find Him.
Shortly after this I was led to attend a lecture on Christian Science. Although I did not understand a word of the lecture at the time, I felt a deep sense of peace in the church. I returned to it for a Sunday morning service, and soon after that my children were enrolled in the Sunday School. I knew that my prayer had been answered. The blessings and healings that followed as a result of church attendance and a daily study of the Bible Lesson, found in the Quarterly, are too numerous to relate here. I was healed of anemia, migraine, influenza, smoking, social drinking, and the need to rely on injections and pills to sustain me.
However, even with these wonderful proofs of God's healing power, I was still not certain that when the time came I could rely on Christian Science alone for my children. Very soon the time came when I was forced to make a decision.
