It is with a heart filled with gratitude to God for our Leader that I am prompted to relate a few of the many blessings I have received since taking up the study of Christian Science over fifty years ago.
Science was presented to me by my mother, who had witnessed the healing of a loved one whose illness the doctors had failed to cure. I asked her what in the world the Christian Science church was. Her answer was that it was "a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." (Historical Sketch, p. 17, the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy.) I recall saying that I could believe in such a religion because I had always felt that in order to follow the Master's teaching, one should heal.
She gave me Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and copies of the Christian Science periodicals, and I began the study which has meant more to me than anything else in my life.
