I had known about Christian Science since I was a child, but I had only ridiculed it and had thought scathing things about anyone who practiced it. However, I did feel that there must be an answer to the seeming paradoxes of the life around me and in the universe.
In my late twenties I met a young woman, a Christian Scientist, who was so admirable in every way that Science became less ridiculous to me. Years after meeting this young woman, and having moved to another city, I fell under the spell of severe mental depression, with many accompanying physical problems. After about a year of this I became closely associated with a couple who were both Christian Scientists. The love, consideration, and understanding of these devoted people completely opened my heart to Science.
Soon after this friendship was established, the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was placed in my hands by my beloved husband, who is not himself a Christian Scientist, but who already knew of the good it offered. The mental depression and its accompanying problems disappeared through the study of the Bible and of this book.
