With a sincere desire to encourage others who may believe there is little hope, I can testify that when alcohol had brought me to the point of despair, I turned to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment and was instantly healed of all desire for alcohol. I could fill a book with my gratitude for this healing alone; but it was followed in good time, with the help of a practitioner, by the healings of nervousness, sleeplessness, high blood pressure, severe chest pains, failing eyesight, a large tumor on one eyelid, growths, both internal and external, and other conditions.
About four years ago, before becoming a student of Christian Science, my health began to fail. I suffered from a great deal of digestive and bowel trouble, nervousness, tiredness, and slept only a few hours each night. The condition gradually grew worse. I went to a doctor and was told that I had extremely high blood pressure and that his tests and the symptoms indicated internal infection and disorders, of what nature he could not be sure until after further tests and X rays. He prescribed certain drugs which I obtained and began to take. One thing I was certain of: I did not like the effect of the drugs. Since I had gone to a Christian Science Sunday School as a child, I had carried in my consciousness some of the truths of God that were taught there, and the thought of drugs and medicines rankled.
One day I took from the cupboard an old copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and began to read and to study it and the Bible. The following day I went to see a practitioner near the shop where I work. I threw out all the drugs and medicines and began to have treatment. Then after considerable time I temporarily gave up reliance on Christian Science and went to a skin specialist. On a return visit to him to have some tumors removed, which had appeared on my body, he performed an examination and found evidence of an internal growth.
