ORDERED LIVES

From the September 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN the world of today the pace is so fast and the demands on most of us so great that it seems almost impossible at times to maintain calm. Yet all of us desire this calm. Even those who regularly throw themselves into diversions or new endeavors, or who turn frantically from one source to another to try something different, are merely searching for security and serenity, although they may not realize this. We all want ordered lives.

Someone may say, "It's not my nature to be orderly." But would this one also say, "It's not my nature to be honest?" Christian Science teaches that the only nature that man can express is God's nature, which is perfect in all aspects. Mrs. Eddy admonishes us, "Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew" (Science and Health, p. 425). Man, as God's reflection, is naturally orderly because God is Principle and man is His complete expression.

Paul said (I Cor. 14:33), "God is not the author of confusion, but of peace." As the representation of God, man must show forth such Godlike qualities as peace, order, calm, joy, harmony, and beauty. We see order constantly evidenced all around us in nature. The daily revolution of the earth on its axis and the regular return of the seasons point to the control of one supreme creator.
