THE belief in human parentage, with its suppositional laws of heredity, is basically responsible for all human discord. Children are supposed to be born with certain characteristics, either hereditary or congenital, which predispose them to certain patterns of mental and physical development.
Geneticists have long accepted that the factors controlling heredity, commonly called genes, are embodied in certain nitrogenous compounds. These are purported to contain most, if not all, of the coded instructions for growth, digestion, heartbeat, patterns of feeling, behavior, and so on, which determine the inherited characteristics of the individual. We are told that if the instructions in a single human cell were to be put into English, they would fill a thousand-volume encyclopedia!
To any thinker understanding Christian Science, which reveals the Science of creation, the claim that materially coded instructions can place men in such mental and physical straitjackets is unacceptable. Christian Science reveals that the real man embodies God's nature and character and can express only the perfection of God.
