TO an ever-increasing number of people, Christian Science is explaining Christ as the impersonal Saviour, which comes to mankind with the message of Truth that heals and saves. Writing of Christ, our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says in Science and Health (p. 332), "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness."
The carnal mind always resists the Christ. It seems determined in its efforts to prove that matter has supremacy over Spirit, placing life in a limited body, intelligence in a material brain, sensation in nerves, and power in physical force. But Christ Jesus proved for all time the supremacy of Spirit over matter.
Telling of Jesus' earthly mission in her book "Miscellaneous Writings," Mrs. Eddy states, "He met and conquered the resistance of the world" (p. 74). Our Master never failed to manifest the divine nature, which proved him to be the Son of God. He demonstrated Christ, his spiritual selfhood, by overcoming all that denied it. He proved that his origin was divine, that his Life was God, and he taught others the freedom to be gained from an understanding of the truth of being. But his opponents resisted Jesus' theology. Speaking of their opposition, he said (John 8:40), "Now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God."
