I often stop to express my gratitude silently for having been brought up by two devoted Christian Scientists. I am well aware that the priceless gift which my mother and father have given to me is an introduction to this wonderful Science. Every need in my growing-up years was quickly met through Christian Science help. Not only did this bring about physical healings, but it brought aid in human relationships and in schoolwork as well.
I feel that a high academic record in school and in college was due primarily to my acknowledgment of the true nature of intelligence. On page 469 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says of intelligence, "It is the primal and eternal quality of infinite Mind, of the triune Principle,—Life, Truth, and Love,—named God."
I recall a time when I was having difficulty with a required course in health at school. The information I was expected to learn for the test was contrary to the facts I had learned through Christian Science, and it seemed to be difficult for me to retain the information long enough to obtain a satisfactory grade on the tests. When the time for the final examination came, I was discouraged. My mother recommended that I read the chapter entitled "Physiology," found in Science and Health. This I did, and I subsequently passed the final test with a high score. It is interesting to note that I later saw the test paper, and on it the teacher had written, "Very good, but where did you get your answers?"
