Miscellaneous Writings, p. 286

From the September 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"In self we trust," my motto was;
My coin, philosophy.
My citadel, pure reason's shell,
My pearl, the knowledge tree.

Cool intellect and I inspected
Atoms, history, art:
(At ego's call, the walls would fall,
The whole reveal the part).

Then suddenly, extremity
Turned pride's poor stone to sand;
As knowledge slipped my frightened grip,
I reached with humbled hand

And felt the touch that breaks the crutch
Of matter: "All is Mind,"
One Truth revealed, all error healed,
Seek here, and ye shall find!

With one short step from self I leapt
And found I could not fall,
For in that space the swift embrace
Of Love held me—and all!
