Thoughts and Things

From the September 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mrs. Eddy writes, "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul."Science and Health, p. 269;

Students of Christian Science are metaphysicians, and they understand their universe to be one of thoughts, not of things. They learn, furthermore, that because the divine Mind is the only Ego, the only thoughts that can constitute legitimate experience emanate from and have the character of that Mind. All that is good, beautiful, or useful has its origin and continuity in that Mind and exists as an idea of Soul, God. All that is baneful or destructive is simply a belief of the carnal, or mortal, mind and is thus without legitimacy.

As long as we believe that we live in a world of things, we cannot help believing also that our universe is outside of and other than our thinking, that it is "over there." Once we understand that our universe is comprised of thoughts and that legitimate thoughts emanate from the divine Mind, we find our universe to be within Mind. We find it is "here."
