Late in the winter of her freshman year at college our daughter called long distance to say that she had been suffering from a sore throat and that she wished we would call a practitioner for her. We did so, gratefully acknowledging Love's ever-presence and Mind's guidance. But the next two evenings she called again to say the condition was worse, and she was becoming fearful that if she stayed away from classes, she would be compelled to go to the college clinic. And so it seemed wise for me to make the five-hour drive to the college to support her in this situation.
When I arrived, I was led to sources of information that assured me it would not be necessary for her to go to the clinic if I asked her professors to excuse her from classes. The professors responded kindly to this request, but one added, "I hope she doesn't have mononucleosis." I tried to reverse this suggestion of mortal mind with the truth, but knowing nothing of what its nature was, I could only deny it as part of the dream of error.
Our daughter had already done a great deal of study in Christian Science, as her books, Concordances, and periodicals scattered about the room attested. Together we spent a wonderful day taking up every subject that came to us, particularly the word "zeal." She had been very active in the Christian Science college organization work and felt she was letting down the group by not making her demonstration quickly. We saw that Truth did not need her personal support, but that the truth she had been voicing would support her in her need.
