An unnamed Indian politician has been quoted as saying that the two most significant events in the last century as far as Asia is concerned, both relating to war, were Japan's victory over Russia in 1905 and China's current accomplishment in exploding an atomic bomb. The events are considered important because it had not previously been known whether an eastern country could overcome a western country or develop modern military technology equal to the West's. The speaker believed India would soon build its own nuclear bomb.
Various other nations have indicated an increasing ability to split the atom. It is conceivable that without adequate control civilization could be destroyed. Such ominous possibilities, in addition to the immoral, unholy, and unchristian character of war, require that war be abolished. It must end. How can this development come? It must come through individual growth out of war, that is, through you, and me, and everyone.
Ask yourself, "Am I possibly warlike? Am I warring with anybody or harboring the capacity to fight with a relative, friend, or fellow worker? Am I in a warlike mood because of frustration over a job or situation?"
