The World's Need Is Christliness

From the April 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If the world knew that its need is Christliness, it would get down to work and strive for this high goal. Instead of spending time and energy on its many materialistic pursuits, it would devote itself to purifying human consciousness and bringing mankind to an awareness of God and His Christ.

The mark of the true Christian is Christliness, the divine nature that reveals the presence of the sons of God. Some evidence of man's sonship with God has always accompanied any progress humanity has made out of the senseless maze of suffering and cruelty that confuses mortals. A better understanding of Christ is always needed.

Christian Science explains Christ as universal Truth and declares that the divine nature is the real heritage of every living being. We see Christ manifested in the affection, charitableness, tenderness, justice, and reliability of mankind whoever they are, whatever their race or religion, wherever they dwell. The least impulse to do what is just and merciful, honest, forgiving, and compassionate, is proof that the Christ, lying deep in consciousness, is rousing someone to know his real selfhood as God's son.
