My experience in Christian Science began when I received a wonderful healing some ten years ago. I can mention a long list of deliverances from bondage which I have experienced in the years since then, and as the result of these healings I have gained a brand new viewpoint on how to work out my own problems. Apathetic frustration was replaced by the beginning of the process of self-restoration. Addiction to tobacco and lust for intoxicants became repulsive and left me, and the profanity so freely used among the rough-and-ready members of my construction workers' union also left me entirely.
A tremendous desire came over me to live this newly found doctrine of Truth and Love and to pass along to others this healing truth. Now I daily strive to honor the pledge every member of The Mother Church makes, which is the sixth tenet of the Church (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 497), "And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure."
One day I was put to a very severe test. I sustained severe facial injuries. Immediately I declared my actual spiritual identity and just kept on claiming the presence of the healing Christ. In these moments I saw that man cannot experience anything which results in loss of blood or pain, since God, Spirit, is the only cause and man is spiritual. In response to my request for help from a practitioner, aid came to me quickly, and just as quickly the bleeding stopped. Pain was never part of this experience.
