Man's Distinct Identity

From the March 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christianity has always stressed the supreme value of individual man, and democratic society is based on this high concept. On the other hand, certain philosophies tend toward minimizing the importance of the individual, and even teach that the supreme good is a complete loss of identity in an amorphous whole.

The Christian Scientist is clearly aware of his individual rights as an intelligent human being, but he bases this on something much deeper than an enlightened political philosophy, important as that is.

Mrs. Eddy, in presenting Christian Science to the world, has shown that there is a spiritual unity underlying all creation. But she leaves no doubt that each individual component of creation is a unique, distinct, recognizable identity, and remains so throughout eternity. She writes, "The divine Mind maintains all identities, from a blade of grass to a star, as distinct and eternal."Science and Health, p. 70;
