How beautifully the prophet Isaiah portrayed the healing and regenerative mission of Christian Science and of Christian Scientists in these words which God spoke to him: "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?"Isa. 58:6; Mrs. Eddy writes, "The Christian Scientist has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death; and he will overcome them by understanding their nothingness and the allness of God, or good."Science and Health, p. 450;
Christ Jesus said of his immediate disciples, "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world."John 17:14; Earnest students of Christian Science are also in the material world but not of it. Being in daily contact with worldly conditions, they have far-reaching responsibilities and obligations. They are not like the Levite who, in Jesus' parable of the good Samaritan, came upon a wounded man lying at the side of the road and "passed by on the other side."Luke 10:32;
When confronted by error, the true Christian Scientist is neither curious nor indifferent; he is alert enough to nullify mentally the boasting challenge of evil. He is an enlisted officer of the law, the law of God, and he is always on duty. He continually expresses truth and love, and so he is a blessing to those with whom he comes in contact. His purpose in life is to prove the practical, efficacious nature of Christian Science and "to let the oppressed go free."
