All Christian Scientists know that their religion is practical and provable. They know too that the ability to prove it does not depend on depth of human knowledge or academic study. Christ Jesus said to his disciples, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, . . . nothing shall be impossible unto you."Matt. 17:20; The great challenge to those who teach in Christian Science Sunday Schools is to make this religion practical to the children, to show them how to gain sufficient faith and understanding to apply to their daily lives the truths found in the Bible and in the writings of Mrs. Eddy.
If we can show the children that in Christian Science they have the ideas that are the most useful tools they will ever acquire, and if we can show them that Science reveals God as the source of man's dominion over all the earth, they will begin to prove the Principle of Christian Science for themselves. They will not drift away but will remain active in Christian Science and will become the future backbone and strength of our movement.
One sometimes hears it said that a child cannot practice Christian Science because he is too young to have any problems. He is never too young to learn of his real selfhood. From a very early age a child can reflect the qualities of God that constitute his real being, and he can let his light shine at all times. He can understand God's ever loving care for each of His ideas and therefore learn to trust God. Mrs. Eddy writes, "It is possible,—yea, it is the duty and privilege of every child, man, and woman, —to follow in some degree the example of the Master by the demonstration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness."Science and Health, p. 37
