Truth Is Irresistible

From the March 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science enlightens mankind by defining God as Truth—irresistible, supreme, All. The power of Truth is God's spontaneous self-revealing activity. It is the impulsion of divine Mind, or the spiritual thought force that constitutes all real being. Nothing, then, exists besides Truth. Nothing can defy its omnipotence. Nothing can deny its omnipresence or hinder its omniaction. Truth knows no boundary, no restriction, no limitation. It knows nothing of error. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes, "It is Truth's knowledge of its own infinitude which forbids the genuine existence of even a claim to error."No and Yes, p. 30;

Truth has always been Truth. The absoluteness of its power and glory is forever unchanging and unchangeable. Throughout the ages this divine, revelatory power has been evidenced in some measure in the enlightened thought of spiritual seers. Thus we read in the Bible of inspired patriarchs and prophets who demonstrated the availability of Truth in human experience as a spiritual force that guides, guards, and comforts.

Time and time again men and nations were delivered from attacks of opposing forces through some understanding of resistless divine power. Thus the prophet Isaiah acknowledged that "when the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him."Isa. 59:19;
