A clear statement of this spiritual method of healing in Christian Science is found in these two sentences from Science and Health, where Mrs. Eddy writes of the Master's way: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick."Science and Health, pp. 476, 477; We can see, as Christ Jesus saw, that the correct view of man identifies him not as a material body but as a spiritual idea, unchanging, holy, pure, and free.
The human mind is reluctant to contemplate the spiritual substance and nature of man because the physical senses deny this view. However, the healing power of Christian Science has always been a contradiction of material reasoning. This healing power is based on Christianization of thought. Its Christly method of reasoning acknowledges and glorifies the power of God, who is infinite Spirit and divine Love. Thinking which accepts God, omniscient Mind, as the only creator readily comes to the conclusion that man is the reflection of creative Mind. To the Christian Scientist, the spiritual ideas and facts of unchanging Principle are real, whereas all sensations of physical sense are only the dream thoughts of suppositional mortal mind.
The authority of spiritual reasoning is proven in the dominion and jurisdiction that divine facts have over human beliefs of inharmony and discord, sin and sickness. Mankind receive an explanation of this authority today through the ministrations of Christian Science, yet the world has for centuries had a clear illustration of it in the record of Christ Jesus. He healed disease and sin by prayer alone because his authority was God and the God-given view, the correct view of man. This same view of man is the inspiration of every scientific prayer today.
