A dear friend tried to tell me about Christian Science, but her words went in one ear and out the other. A few years later, however, a fellow employee told me that his wife had never had a cold in her life. I didn't think he was serious, but he said it was true. He explained that her religion, Christian Science, kept her healthy. I was very much impressed, and this time I was ready and receptive to hear what Christian Science had to offer the world.
I started going to a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and bought a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and read it every spare moment. I just couldn't get enough of this teaching, and drank it in thirstily.
For over twenty years I had been taking thyroid pills daily as prescribed by a physician. He said that I would probably have to take them the rest of my life as my thyroid gland was practically inactive. This new-found religion meant so much to me that I knew I would have to stop taking pills if I wanted to be a Christian Scientist. I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner and explained this to her. She said she would do prayerful work for me.
