I would indeed be ungrateful if I did not share the good news of this healing. The testimonies of others have helped me in working out my own problems. Some time ago I returned from a trip to the Holy Land. I began to experience severe pain in my side, which quickly spread to the abdomen. It began to protrude. I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner. At a testimony meeting in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, one Wednesday evening a woman told of being healed of a tumor, and I studied similar healings found in the book, A Century of Christian Science Healing. The pain stopped, but discomfort and protrusion persisted.
My mother and two of her sisters had passed on some years before with cancer. Fear became rampant. There were times when the temptation to resort to a physical operation before it was too late taunted me, but my real desire was to rely on God alone as my Physician, and in Him only I placed my trust.
During this time I read the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, through. I did more than read. I hugged almost every statement to my heart. One passage found on page 418 was with me constantly. It reads: "Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth." I knew that no surgeon could cut away a dark image of mortal thought. A verse from the Bible helped me very much. It is (Hebr. 4:12), "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
