Love Is the Creative Power

From the March 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A distinctive characteristic of divine Love is its creative power. Love is that which produces ideas, blesses them, sustains them, and cherishes them. It is the impetus behind all that is good. Divine Love is the Father-Mother of man and the universe. It is that which saves and heals. The nature of Love is embodied in the life and works of Christ Jesus. "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."John 3:16;

The fact that Jesus came through the virgin birth gives us a glimpse of the fatherhood of God. As we understand this more clearly and comprehend that God is also the Mother of man, we will see man in his completely spiritual nature and progressively demonstrate this fact here and now. Until that time comes, we do well to apply the Christ, or the nature of this divine cause, to all the activities of our daily experience. We can work with the fact that divine Love is the basic cause of our existence, that it is the substance of our home, our job, our church. It permeates every phase of our life.

In business there are the essential functions of production, marketing, and distribution. Behind all these activities is to be seen the divine Principle, Love, that meets all human needs. When men recognize this divine impetus as Love, they will manifest ever more intelligence and creativity in their economic enterprises. The metaphysical fact is that God, good, is ever present, and that all creation manifests the abundant supply that accompanies God's presence. The Bible tells us that God spake to man, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it."Gen. 1: 28; And Mrs. Eddy comments on this instruction. She says, "Divine Love blesses its own ideas, and causes them to multiply,—to manifest His power."Science and Health, p. 517;
