Sonship, Beloved of the Father

From the March 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Being the image of his Father, man actually has, and therefore we should claim, only that spiritual selfhood which is the exact likeness of God, Spirit. The supposition that there is another self, a mortal self, proves false from the outset, for therein can be found no resemblance to Truth, no relationship to that perfect Life which is God.

Man's sonship with the Father exists, not because of any human will or bestowal, but in accord with the law of God, good. As spiritual understanding unfolds, this divine law is revealed to us, and our real selfhood, secure in Christ, Truth, is discerned. So man is seen as spiritual, perfect, possessing all good, including dominion over all the earth.

Mrs. Eddy states, "The real man being linked by Science to his Maker, mortals need only turn from sin and lose sight of mortal selfhood to find Christ, the real man and his relation to God, and to recognize the divine sonship."Science and Health, p. 316;
