A systematic method of study is important in all branches of learning for those who would acquire knowledge and use it. This is certainly true in the study of Christian Science, which enables one to know God and to utilize His healing laws. A better knowledge of God has been urged since early Bible times.
The Word of God, speaking through Joshua, admonished the people to meditate upon the book of the law constantly that they might be successful (see Josh. 1:7, 8). Isaiah wrote, "Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read."Isa. 34:16; Paul tells how he found the people of Berea more receptive than the Thessalonians to his preaching of the Christ: "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."Acts 17:11;
Christian Scientists give earnest study to the Bible today, for they have learned the practical value of its divine precepts. They also give careful study to the writings of Mrs. Eddy and find great profit in heeding her admonition in the textbook, Science and Health: "Read this book from beginning to end. Study it, ponder it."Science and Health, p. 559; Elsewhere in the textbook our Leader admonishes:"Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science by a simple perusal of this book. The book needs to be studied , and the demonstration of the rules of scientific healing will plant you firmly on the spiritual groundwork of Christian Science."Science and Health, p. 147;
