At a time of great mental distress I opened the Bible at random and read these words: "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength" (Isa. 40:31). I read the verse only once, but I gained a sense of comfort and the assurance that all I needed was to be given to me.
The following morning a friend who had at one time presented me with a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which I had not taken the time to read, came over and presented me with the Christian Science Quarterly. This I knew was my answer. It was as if a hand were leading me.
Before this I had been taking medicine and sleeping pills. The pages of the Christian Science textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health, took the place of pills. I gave up all medicine. I did not have to go to any special place for curative measures, nor did I have to have someone with me to care for me. The ever-presence of the healing Christ that appeared through my study and that was tenderly expressed by members of the branch Church of Christ, Scientist, which I began attending, together with the treatment faithfully ministered by a Christian Science practitioner, eliminated many fears and erroneous concepts from which I had suffered.
