Man and Space

From the June 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Can we—in fact as in theory—land men on the moon and bring them back? Is it possible to travel to and return from a distant planet far beyond earth's satellite? These are some of the questions one hears and reads.

Surely the recent manned trip to the environs of the moon, together with the prior unmanned landings, indicate that such a journey can and will be accomplished. But there still seem to be many uncertainties and risks, and it behooves Christian Scientists to keep their concepts of these subjects correct. In other words, our thinking about man and space should be spiritually clear. Accordingly, we should consider two questions in the light of Christian Science. What is man? What is space?

In the light of Christian Science, that is, in the light of spiritual understanding, man is the image and likeness of God, Spirit. He is spiritual, a limitless reflection of immortal Mind, completely intelligent, beloved of God; and he abides in the allness of God, divine Love.
