Christian Science Is Universal

From the July 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As long as Christian Science is thought of merely as another church, a denomination, or a sect, it is not understood. This Science is the truth of being, and the truth is universal law. It can be demonstrated anywhere in any age as the will of God. And it is eternal. This Science is applicable to every human problem. Its basis is one God, Spirit, and man in His likeness--spiritual. When divine law is recognized as present and governing all, this dispels the confusion caused by the blind, mortal belief of human and material laws in conflict with the Father's will.

Divine law is insistent. It is a force that finds avenues in human consciousness through which it can assert the divine will and take over the control of present existence. This action has been going on since the beginning of time. People have lived who have responded to the power of divine Science, and they have subsequently changed the course of human history. What are called miracles in the Bible are instances of the demonstration of universal Science.

Many times, in the long trek mankind have been taking from the animal to the spiritual, the law that is Science has penetrated resistant materialism—the false belief of mind in matter—and revealed to those who were ready for it a glimpse of real being in Spirit. Abraham, Moses, the prophets, and many others let the light of true existence illumine their thought as the gradual revelation of divine law proceeded. In Christ Jesus, revelation reached the full flowering of its glory and power.
