Church in Action

Indonesia: good ground for Science

From the August 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In Jakarta, First Church of Christ, Scientist, was nearly bursting at the seams until it moved into a beautiful new church having a seating capacity of 350 and a spacious Sunday School unit accommodating up to 350 pupils.

Even while the church was under construction, attendance went up 26 percent at Sunday services and 38 percent at testimony meetings. Twenty-six newcomers—many of them young people—joined the church, and the Sunday School enrollment soared to the 170 mark.

"Young people are an important factor in church organization," commented one member. "Although they may not often be expert workers, and most are very new students of this great Science, they contribute vital elements of love and enthusiasm and a willingness to learn more and to serve better. They join the local church and The Mother Church early in their study of Christian Science."
