The Leaven at Work

From the August 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Scientists have no reason to be alarmed or perplexed by the churning and change so visibly under way in the world today. They recognize that the leaven of Truth is at work in every phase of human experience, more so than ever before in modern times. A great overturning is being experienced. They also recognize that stability, quietness, and assurance are the established facts of the universe, for God, the divine Principle, Love, is everywhere and has all-power.

Many are familiar with Christ Jesus' parable of the "leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened."Matt. 13:33 Mrs. Eddy makes several references in her writings to this leaven, this activity of the Christ, Truth, in human consciousness. She has also declared that "mortal error will vanish in a moral chemicalization";Science and Health, p. 96 and surely it is this basic reevaluation and rethinking, this reformation and revitalization of human thought in all its compartments and among both youth and adults that we see under way now.

Mortal mind is indeed being stirred, and the uncoverings and the confused counsels that result are sometimes jolting. The impact of the Christ, however, is to save and heal. God-impelled progress can bring only blessings. There may be strong lessons to be learned as humanity undergoes the chastening of divine Love, but we can know with assurance that today's churning and ferment cannot disrupt mankind's heavenward course. It can never produce such confusion that the voice of Truth cannot be heard and heeded.
