Not Death but Life

From the August 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is rather astounding to consider what a large proportion of time the average individual spends in the contemplation of death. Accident, disease, war, crime, suffering, seem to take up a large part of the news and hence occupy thought to a great extent. Just a little understanding of Christian Science will enable the individual to realize how wrong this is and how destructive to one's harmony it can be.

The body is the expression of thought. If consciousness is filled with mortality, what kind of experience can one expect? Such a situation calls for radical change, a thorough renovation of thought. Through earnest effort in study and prayer one can purify his thinking, purge it of the mesmerism of death, and come into a fuller sense of Life—Life deathless, diseaseless, sinless, eternal.

It is no wonder that the student of Christian Science is taught to take enough time each day to purify his thinking and to be faithful during the day to counteract aggressive suggestions. In this way he demonstrates a measure of control over his experience. He demonstrates that there is one Mind, one God, and that this Mind is the perfect creator, who makes man in His image and likeness. This Mind is Love, Truth, and Life, and its expression, or offspring, manifests the nature of Truth and Love.
