"God is Love" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 2). These three words changed my whole life after I had read them in a Christian Science pamphlet, which I had come across in the bookcase of a relative. For some years previous to this my concept of God had been entirely negative. As a child I had been taught to pray to God when I needed His help, and as I was always in poor health and afraid of everything and everybody, I mostly prayed that I might be as healthy and strong as other children. But my prayers did not seem to be answered, and I gave up my faith in God.
The words "God is Love" were for me as the sound of the first trumpet that we read of in Revelation (see 8:7), and since beginning to understand more of the spiritual import of these words I have been more than grateful that this trumpet call of Love so early roused me from a false concept of God.
We knew nothing about Christian Science, so my mother turned to a friend, who she knew had been healed through the teachings of this religion. Later, she took me to visit a Christian Science practitioner. The explanations given to me during this first visit convinced me that Christian Science was what I had always longed for.
