I am very grateful for my long years of membership in The Mother Church and branch churches and also for the inestimable privilege of class teaching and the aftercare of the teacher. My love and deep gratitude go out to God, our Father, for Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy, whose unselfed devotion gave Christian Science to the world.
Christian Science was first presented to me in 1923, and it is with great gratitude that I can speak of its healing power in my own experience.
As a young woman I used to suffer from deep depression and a sense of uncertainty and fear about life. My dear and only brother had been killed in the First World War, and I grieved a good deal. The textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was given to me to read by a true friend who later became my husband. The first healing was that of grief for my brother's passing. I was reading far into the night, and I came to the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, the last two lines of which read (ibid., p. 17):
