My mother was a Christian Scientist for a number of years before she married, and she enrolled me at a very young age in the Christian Science Sunday School. I remember learning the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, and loving the Bible stories. Trust in God was instilled in my thinking. This teaching later came to my rescue.
Neglecting my study of Christian Science, and wandering in the highways and byways of material living, I became completely wretched after a time and suffered from a nervous breakdown.
During the early stages of this wilderness experience, I began to realize that the emptiness and frustration that seemed to be my lot could only be remedied by spiritual regeneration. I knew that only God could deliver me from this pit. I knew that I must turn to Him but felt completely unworthy.
