As a child I was always under the care of doctors and also stayed for a time in a sanatorium, where I was treated for tuberculosis. In 1924, while my mother was attending a clinic on my behalf, someone introduced her to Christian Science.
My sister and I were enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School, where we attended until we attained the age of twenty years. I had always thought of God with very mixed feelings, and my first lesson was a revelation to me. I came away realizing not only that God is Love, and knows no evil, but also that I am His image and likeness, reflecting the good He gives to all mankind.
From that time on we threw away all our medicines and relied completely on Christian Science for healing. Healings came quickly and have remained permanent. My mother was instantaneously healed of a heart condition when she read and understood verses 1 and 3 of Psalm 27: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ... Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident." She came running upstairs to tell us the good news, and thereafter she enjoyed years of good health and activity such as she had not known before.
