I shall always be grateful to the dear aunt who introduced me to Christian Science at a very unhappy period of my life. My mother, whom I loved very much, had passed on suddenly at an early age, and I was overwhelmed with grief. My aunt gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, telling me to return it to her if I was not interested. This, however, I was always reluctant to do, even though I made no real effort to study or understand the book until about twelve years later.
By then I was married and had two small children. We were living in the country under rather poor housing conditions. My husband worked frequently at night, and it was difficult to keep the children quiet during the day. There was also a lot of rowdyism in the area. I still grieved for my mother, and began to experience very severe headaches. When I realized I was becoming irritable with the children, I awakened to my need of Christian Science. I began to read the textbook, Science and Health, eagerly in every spare moment, and whenever possible to attend a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, several miles away.
On one of these visits I told an usher at the door of my desire to know someone with whom I could talk about Christian Science. She accompanied me to my bus, a ten-minute walk away, and I am so grateful for her love and guidance during many years, and for the strong support she and her husband have given me during many difficult times.
