The scourge of poverty is seen in all parts of the world. Does a remedy exist? Yes, it does. Christian Science, when understood and demonstrated, is the true solution to this distressing condition. Does this sound incredible? Perhaps it does to thought lost in materiality, to thought that sees and knows nothing but matter. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, the Christian Science textbook: "A higher and more practical Christianity, demonstrating justice and meeting the needs of mortals in sickness and in health, stands at the door of this age, knocking for admission. Will you open or close the door upon this angel visitant, who cometh in the quiet of meekness, as he came of old to the patriarch at noonday?" Science and Health, p. 224;
Those who approach the teachings of this Science prayerfully, with an open mind and a sincere heart, are able to understand and prove the unreal nature of poverty. The study of this practical religion by means of the Bible and Science and Health gives the student an ever-expanding knowledge of God, the creator of the universe, and of man as His reflection. The more we know of God, the more we know of His abundant spiritual gifts and the more clearly we understand that poverty is never real.
Christian Science is in the world to bless mankind, to free them from evil deceptions that have long enslaved them. Not the least of these evils is poverty. The false belief of poverty is really the belief that creation is incomplete, lacking something needful. Did not Christ Jesus make clear to mankind by his teachings and healings that the spiritual understanding of God is the one and only process by which we can prove the allness of good and the nonexistence of poverty?
