I was brought up in an era of great fear, and as in the case of Job, the thing that I greatly feared took possession of my consciousness. At one time a doctor had said I might develop a goiter and I did. When I became interested in Christian Science, I had an instantaneous healing of constipation on my first visit with a practitioner. Due to an operation in my teens the doctor had also told me that I would never have any children. However, with the study and application of Christian Science I was able to have two children.
It took many years for the healing of goiter, and only when I forgot self did this condition dissolve. I had to overcome self-pity, selfishness, self-righteousness, hate, envy, self-centeredness, and many other false traits of character. I started thinking of other people more than I did of myself. Before, I always "wanted"; now I wanted to give and to help other people. I became interested in PTA and work in the community, and sometime during this period the goiter disappeared.
At the same time I was healed of migraine. The condition of the migraine I attributed to a confused thought. One of the verses I held to was, "In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion" (Ps. 71:1).
