My introduction to Christian Science, many years ago, was a confirmation of Isaiah's words, when he represents God as saying, "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear" (Isa. 65:24).
A caller whom I had not met before related her experiences in Christian Science, and I was so interested by the little I heard that I began visits to the Christian Science practitioner the caller recommended, so that I might learn more about this, to me, newfound religion.
The practitioner loaned me a copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Shortly I purchased my own copy. My sole study of Christian Science consisted of reading passages from the textbook, and insight gained from the practitioner's conversations. I did not attend church services, study the weekly Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, or read any of the Christian Science publications. Yet each time I opened Science and Health I had a great sense of expectancy. When the time came to wear an overcoat, I usually slipped the book into one of the pockets before leaving home for work. During the business day, when the opportunity occurred and the thought came to do so, I read brief passages from the book.
