Christian Science has brought great good...

From the December 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has brought great good into my life. In our family of four, God has been our only physician for over twenty years. Many diseases and physical disorders, such as mumps, smallpox, measles, flu, earaches, acne, liver spots, deafness, migraine, and brain concussion with lacerations, were healed through the understanding Christian Science gives us that God, good, is All-in-all and evil is powerless.

One of our first proofs of the allness of God, good, came when our daughter was a baby. She showed serious symptoms of nasal congestion day after day. Then, while I was praying for her as we are taught in Science, she smiled up at me. This smile of innocence and total unawareness of her material condition broke the mesmerism for me. I realized that she was a gentle expression of Life and knew nothing of a physical status. I asked myself, "As a professed Christian Scientist, what is your concern? She knows nothing about adult concepts of flu, so why should you?" The still small voice came to my thought, "God is her Life." Within a short time her breathing was normal, and the other symptoms were gone almost immediately. I thanked God for this further proof of the fact that "Christian Science silences human will, quiets fear with Truth and Love, and illustrates the unlabored motion of the divine energy in healing the sick." These words are from page 445 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

A meaningful healing of my own was that of an unsightly growth of many years' standing. Through faithful study of the Bible Lesson, church participation, and prayer I began to look to the day when I would give my first testimony of the healing. A poem in the Journal inspired me. It brought out the need to trust spiritual growth to overcome material conditions. It told of a pear tree that had sprung up in the center of a millstone. As the tree grew and increased in size, it filled the hole in the millstone, lifting the stone above the ground and splitting the stone at last. I saw my need would be met as I continued to grow in spiritual understanding of God's allness. My healing came while I was gratefully telling someone that prayer in Science had guided me to solve a very complex problem in a seemingly miraculous way. The growth suddenly drained and passed off.
