The Light of Christmas

From the December 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the stillness of that first Christmas night, a light shone, as the angel message came to the world: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Luke 2:14; The darkness was illumined —the glory of the Lord shone on the shepherds, keeping watch over their flocks. And to the Wisemen the same brightness appeared as a star, guiding them to the Bethlehem babe—to him who would one day declare, "I am the light of the world." John 8:12;

Many times the Bible refers to brightness and light in connection with the Christ. Christ is Truth, revealing that God is our Father and man is His perfect, beloved child, forever cared for and blessed. The light that this truth brings to individual consciousness dispels the false belief called sickness and sin, and healing follows naturally.

At Christmastime the collective thought of the Christian world turns Christward. And this turning brings a wonderful feeling of light and joy—the glory of Christmas. It permeates the atmosphere. Christmas is in the air! The tinsel of Christmas, the material glitter, should not be confused with the true brightness, the light of divine Love that the Christ brings. This light of Love is experienced as an inner awareness of joy and peace. It is manifested outwardly in spontaneous love and goodwill to men.
