The Importance of Keeping Our Inspiration

From the December 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Inspired thought is the only real remedy for mankind's ills. It brings the light of the understanding of true being to human consciousness and thereby heals the body, for the body is mortal mind's subjective state. Inspiration changes our thinking from the belief of being confined in matter to enjoyment of infinity in Soul; from mental depression to the expression of the qualities of divine Spirit; from hate to love; from blind acceptance of the inevitability of evil and eventual death to the acknowledgment of eternal, immortal Life and continually developing good. It dissolves the mist of materialism, the veil of mesmeric, mortal belief, to reveal the perfection of Truth—the wholeness, beauty, and harmony of celestial being—which is the normal condition of the real, spiritual man, who is God's reflection.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "The vesture of Life is Truth." And she continues farther on: "The divine Science of man is woven into one web of consistency without seam or rent. Mere speculation or superstition appropriates no part of the divine vesture, while inspiration restores every part of the Christly garment of righteousness." Science and Health, p. 242;

Inspiration involves consciousness of the actual presence of spiritual things, awareness of the phenomena of God, divine Spirit, as well as the spontaneous expression of the qualities of immortal Soul. Inspiration transcends mortality and bears witness to the realm of supersensible Life, the kingdom of heaven, which is always at hand though it may temporarily be unseen by uninspired thought. It bears witness to the truth that being is entirely spiritual, whole, and perfect. In so doing, it heals not only mind but body.
