Thirty-six years ago I was healed in one day of German measles by the prayers of my first Christian Scientist friend, my Sunday School teacher, when, as a twelve-year-old, I understood nothing of the teachings of this religion. However, I did understand that prayer had brought the healing, and I did understand the warmth and love radiating from this gentle person. Is it any wonder I was attracted to the religion she lived?
Another incident served to further cement our family's growing conviction that the teachings and practice of Christ Jesus, as illuminated and systematized by Mary Baker Eddy, are indeed the pearl of great price.
During a Fourth of July outing I inadvertently allowed a cannon firecracker (in those days we could buy large ones) to go off in my clenched hand. My hand was numb and became greatly swollen. My Sunday School teacher was again asked for prayerful help. The pain, inflammation, and swelling were soon brought under control through her prayers. In two days no evidence of the mishap remained. And my parents, too, were impressed. We soon disposed of two suitcases full of medicines and medical supplies, and none of us has used medicine since that time.
