I have learned of God's omnipresence through my study of Christian Science, and these Bible verses have established this understanding in my thought: "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear" (Ps. 46: 1, 2) and "If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me" (Ps. 139:8-10). It is a wonderful feeling to realize that I cannot be anywhere God is not already, and always will be.
About six years ago I was doing some work on the roof of a two-story building. As I stepped on the ladder to get down from the roof, the ladder slipped from under me. I fell to the concrete below. As I was falling, the thought came very clearly to me that God was right there with me, and that I could trust His care.
After striking the concrete I was strongly tempted to give in to the pain and just lie there. I resisted this immediately and arose conscious of God's ever-presence and care and of my desire to be obedient to His law, which gives man dominion over all. I immediately went inside the building, where my wife and a friend washed my face, hands, and arms. As my face was being washed, I could feel one side of it swelling rapidly, and the thought of disfigurement presented itself. I immediately and forcefully declared that I was under God's law and therefore not under the commonly accepted belief that there would be such a result from an experience of this kind. Very soon I felt the swelling stop, and then it started receding, until it was quickly and completely gone. A break in the skin on my face closed almost immediately, without leaving any evidence. Later that day my Christian Science teacher was called to support me in my prayerful work.
