Expansive Education

From the July 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The story is told that a venerable sage, asked what in life had given him the greatest satisfaction, replied, "A child who went down the road singing after he had asked me the way." Many of us as parents and teachers know the joy of helping a child find the way in life. But today there is much ferment in education as to what constitutes right direction.

Today we hear much about instructional goals and behavioral objectives. Many innovations and changes in teaching procedures are in process of trial and development. Subject matter skills are being introduced to children at ever earlier ages. It is evident that progress is being made in breaking down many traditional limitations imposed on children and their capabilities. It is evident also that academic pressures are sometimes exerted with a disproportionate sense of speed and urgency.

If we turn to the Bible and to Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, we find the truth that reveals man's real heritage as a child of God. We find that man, created by God, reflects God's qualities without limitation. The truth revealed in these textbooks of Christian Science is not based upon man made intelligence tests or a human theory of learning. It is the law of God, timeless and unchanging.
