Gratitude is an expression of thankfulness for benefits received. A recent experience I am grateful for is the healing of a painful and unsightly swelling in my face.
I had been to the dentist one morning, and during the afternoon my face began to swell. Many years before I had had this same experience after a dental appointment, and I grew fearful because at that earlier time I had been forced to resort to medical treatment.
I declared many of the truths of Christian Science affirming man's God-derived perfection, but the condition seemed to grow steadily worse. I could no longer see out of one eye, and my face was discolored and greatly distorted. My family, although willing to support me in my stand, were becoming alarmed, so after several days a friend, a Christian Scientist, took me to her home. Together we read the weekly Lesson Sermon, sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, and prayed as we are taught in our religion. The condition did not yield, and my fear was great,
