Testimonies of Healing

I am prompted to write in gratitude for...

From the February 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am prompted to write in gratitude for the efficacy of Mrs. Eddy's discovery given so lovingly to the world by her devotion and concern for mankind, and for the operation of Christian Science in my own life. On a long trip from England to the Baltic Coast of Sweden, I became ill and had to return home.

On arrival I got in touch with the Christian Science practitioner who was helping me, and went to stay in a Christian Science nursing home. There I was put to bed, and a practitioner in the area was engaged to continue the work. After lying there for over a week, I thought of the lines from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which had been given to me by the practitioner for study (p. 393): "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man." As my thought became aroused, I pulled myself up onto the pillows and tried to read.

One night I was very frightened to go to sleep, and did my best to stay awake, but eventually I did slip off to sleep. The next thing I knew I felt that I was being lifted up a great distance. I thought that I must have fallen to the floor and was being lifted by the nurse. But on opening my eyes, I was still in bed and still alone. I felt the paralyzing fear slip away as I became conscious that divine Love was present in my extremity and would not allow me to sink into oblivion. What a blessed sense of the power of a caring God was mine!
