Christian Science has met my every need from my earliest childhood. Convincing evidences of its power include healing of an eye infection, what appeared to be a dislocated hip, and numerous healings of injuries, including an instantaneous overcoming of pain, swelling, and discoloration following a head and eye injury during a soccer game. I have been healed of acid burns, exposure to cyanide gas fumes, and a form of paralysis. The problem of right employment has been solved.
While I was in Jamaica, British West Indies, during World War II, a problem involving gallstones caused very intense pain in my lower body. It did not respond at once to Christian Science treatment through prayer. Cable communications with the practitioner were censored so that pertinent information did not get through. A sympathetic physician consented to give a diagnosis without recommending treatment. At the time the pain was so intense that the physician suggested a morphine injection which I accepted. This failed to provide relief and I was given a second injection.
My wife and I were working so earnestly to know that there is no sensation in matter that when no relief came with the second injection we knew we could expect no relief from drugs and turned with renewed effort to what we had learned in Christian Science. The information was cabled to the practitioner, who took up the work. Several hours later the pain eased, and the next day I took a three-hour truck ride to perform a task for my company. There was no further discomfort or pain, and there has never been a recurrence of the problem.
