How to Write for the Christian Science Periodicals

From the January 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If you've been encouraged and healed by reading articles in The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, and Herald, you may feel you'd like to contribute. Once you actually start writing you may find it's not as hard as perhaps you've anticipated. Approach it from a spiritually scientific basis, and you'll be supported and directed by the Christ, Truth. As well as stating metaphysics and how to demonstrate Science, the article itself should be a demonstration of the intelligence and beauty of divine Mind.

A primary requirement is to have a metaphysical grasp of what is actually taking place—writing an article is not, essentially, a personal activity. It is an evidence that a personal sense of oneself has been put aside to some extent. As this happens, we perceive healing spiritual ideas and get a feeling for the words that express them well. We detect more acutely the specific opposing claims of mortal belief that deny the spiritual truth emerging in the article.

We can't tell you exactly how to go about writing for us. At heart, this is a matter for individual demonstration. But we can say that the article that heals is the outcome of the writer's spiritual growth and perception, and not merely a literary exercise. It must represent an upsurge of inspiration and spiritual discernment. No matter how simple the ideas you write about, if you genuinely feel their spiritual significance, this will shine through the words.
