Class Instruction—Why Hold Back?

From the January 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Has the impulsion come to you to apply for class instruction in Christian Science? Have you decided that you'll think about it at a more convenient time? Some of us may be like those guests Jesus described in a parable as invited to a great supper, "And they all with one consent began to make excuse." Luke 14:18;

What arguments may delay our applying for class instruction with an authorized teacher of Christian Science? One argument may be, "I'm not ready." But one is ready if he truly desires to learn more of God, divine Mind, and of man's relationship to Him as His perfect spiritual idea. One is ready if he is faithfully seeking spiritual insight and inspiration through his study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and is stably striving to live the truth he learns.

When one is truly ready for class instruction, God provides for its accomplishment. Readiness is not determined by age, race, occupation, or social status. To be spiritually prepared and maturing spiritually is the important thing. Problems may arise if we begin to overplan who our teacher will be, and when will be the best time of the year for us to take class, and how it will all be brought about. To become fully absorbed in our own human plans, is not to let God's way unfold.
