In April, 1972, I attended a testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist, for the first time. A few days before, I had bought the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, and was reading it with great interest. The healings I read in the chapter entitled "Fruitage," as well as those contained in The Herald of Christian Science, greatly impressed me.
Without wasting much time I asked the help of a practitioner in connection with a certain discordant condition. The practitioner expressed much love to me and showed me how to do prayerful work in order to get rid of certain errors, and especially how to think on the basis of divine Principle and Truth. At the same time I was reading the Bible, but I had not yet begun to study the Lesson-Sermon. The light of Truth did not let me wait for long. I suddenly felt that I had gotten rid of a multitude of discords that had harassed me for a long time.
One of the errors was that of claustrophobia, the fear of being in a closed space. That very month I traveled four times by air within twenty days without the least discomfort or fear. Before my newfound interest in Christian Science, the very thought that some day I would be forced to travel by air made me feel panicky.
